100 words
Landed Lab is a daily practice platform for students, graduates and early-career professionals. Employers use AI and online assessments to decide who moves forward, but rarely tell applicants why they didn’t get through. Applicants practise for ten minutes a day on 500+ questions and scenarios, and growing, across situational judgement tests, competency-based interview questions and video interviews. Every response gets feedback on where it fell short and what to fix, and development is tracked across the five competencies recruiters assess most: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Judgement, Collaboration and Self-Management.
Our purpose.
Landed Lab exists so that capable candidates don’t lose out because they didn’t understand the hiring process.
Our mission.
We give students, graduates and early-career professionals daily practice on realistic hiring assessments — designed by workplace psychologists, with feedback in real time — so they walk into the process confident and prepared.
The problem we are addressing.
UK graduates entering the market each year, competing for a shrinking pool of structured entry-level roles.
HESA, Higher Education Student Statistics 2024/25
Young people aged 16 to 24 not in education, employment or training (NEET). The highest figure in over a decade, driven by unemployment rather than inactivity.
ONS, January to March 2026
Questions and scenarios in the Landed Lab bank, and growing, covering situational judgement, competency-based interview questions, video interviews and psychometric assessments.
Landed Lab, July 2026
The same assessment formats gate internships and placements and graduate schemes, so students meet AI recruitment processes in their second year of university, long before anyone has taught them how they work. Most candidates encounter these methods for the first time when they are being judged by them. There is no obvious place to learn what a strong response looks like, or why a particular answer fell short. Employers don’t often share feedback. Landed Lab closes that gap. Daily practice of just ten minutes per day, with visible progress each week, so that candidates walk into an assessment knowing exactly what to expect.
What Landed Lab does.
- Daily practice of just ten minutes per day. Three questions per session, with feedback on every response.
- Situational judgement tests. Realistic workplace scenarios with feedback on the judgement behind each choice.
- Competency-based interview questions. Structured practice with guidance on structure, evidence and delivery.
- Video interviews. Recorded response exercises that mirror the format employers use at screening stage.
- Psychometric assessments. Workplace preferences and personality questionnaires that measure what employers look for.
- A bank of more than 500 questions and scenarios, and growing, so practice is daily and repeatable rather than a single attempt.
Responses are mapped over time, so candidates can see where their strengths lie and how to improve. We are not aware of another platform that gives early-career candidates this.
This is not a way of gaming assessments. The competencies assessments measure are the competencies employers want, so practising them makes candidates better prepared, not better at faking.
The five competencies.
Critical Thinking
Analysing information objectively, evaluating evidence, and reaching well-reasoned conclusions under pressure.
Problem Solving
Identifying root causes, generating solutions, and implementing an effective course of action with incomplete information.
Judgement
Making sound decisions in ambiguous situations, balancing competing priorities, acting without waiting for certainty.
Collaboration
Working effectively with others, navigating interpersonal dynamics, contributing to group outcomes.
Self-Management
Managing workload under pressure, seeking feedback proactively, taking responsibility for personal development.
How Landed Lab uses AI.
“AI delivers realistic practice and personalised feedback at scale; every response is scored against rubrics designed by our psychometrician and expert team — the AI applies our frameworks; it does not exercise its own judgement.”

Michael founded Landed Lab after fifteen years designing and running assessments inside large organisations. He has sat on both sides of the process: building the exercises candidates are measured against, and watching capable people fall at the first hurdle because nobody had ever explained how the hurdle worked. He designed the rubrics with psychometrician David Lambiotte and with graduates who had sat the same tests and found them opaque and frustrating.

Quotes for use.
All quotes are attributable to Michael Mauro, Founder of Landed Lab.
“There are over a million young people in this country who are not in work, education or training, and the number is rising because they cannot get hired, not because they are not trying. Meanwhile, the way employers screen them has become more sophisticated and less transparent. That is a gap somebody must close.”
“Assessments are not a mystery to the people who design them. They are only a mystery to the people sitting them. We have spent fifteen years on the employer side of that table. Landed Lab moves that knowledge across to the candidate.”
“Employers, universities and government are all looking at the same problem from different sides. Capable people are being screened out before anyone has met them. We would like to work with all three to improve assessments and hiring across the board.”
